Journal 11/16/18- Lighting the Fire

I slashed the metal against the flint for what seemed like the ten millionth time. A single bead of sweat dripped down my nose and paused just long enough to catch a ray of sunshine before dropping onto my feeble pile. Spark, smoke, hope…. spark, smoke, hope….. for an hour now. I simply couldn’t tease a fire out of thin air. My hands were cramping from holding the flint and the tiny metal razor of my survival bracelet was cutting into my fingers.

Jake's Wednesday Musings: The Holiday "Freeze"

I’ve shared before the great affinity I have for my friend and co-worker, Jake Vandergriff, at Haka Fitness. He’s been pumping out some great blog posts that he calls his Wednesday Musings. I had to share this one with my readers! While it made me (literally) Laugh Out Loud, it also kind of lit a fire under my excuse-making ass. You can read more of Jake’s Musings on the Haka Blog.

Christmas List for Active Families and the Health Enthused

We are getting close to Christmas..... like, reallllll close. It can be hard to know what to get for the active family, or the family that is trying to bump down the grasps of technology and do more outside. 3 Reasons to Rethink Exercise

“I hate exercise, but I know I need to do it,” she said. “I just have never been able to stick with it.”

“Hey, no worries,” I replied. “You are definitely not alone. Maybe you should rethink exercise.”

10/15/18- Enough

The story inside my head says I’m not enough. The voice that talks to me says it’s never good enough. It’s never enough weight on the barbell or lean enough or fast enough. Journal 9/13/18- Dark Spaces and Deep Layers

I fear connection. To really connect with someone is so personal. Yet, to give that connection is the ultimate gift. Connection is a personal investment and a selfless gift. The more you give, the more deeply invested you become, and the more you risk emotionally.

I found this in my car yesterday. and just stared at it….

Deep Roots Nature School Kicked off This Week!

It can be a bit difficult to transition from the over-scheduled, entertainment-filled expectations of the outside world to the setting of Nature School. Often times, we struggle with the desire to fill every second and keep kids on the move. We wrestle with the ability to give kids responsibility and then back off and let them do their thing. We fear the problems they will encounter and the big feelings they might have to feel. This is a disservice to our young people!
